Robert Fotheringham is a senior capital markets executive and board director with more than 30 years of experience in institutional investment management, exchange operations, proprietary trading, and private equity, with a strong focus on governance, risk oversight, and regulated financial markets.
Mr. Fotheringham is the Co-Founding Partner and Chief Executive Officer of Fotheringham & Fang Group Inc., a firm that is focused on enterprise creation, consulting services, and private investment. In this role, he is responsible for strategic leadership, capital allocation, enterprise risk management, and governance oversight across the firm’s operating and investment activities. The Group seeks opportunities across multiple industries and international markets, including North America, Europe, Asia, and Eurasia. He has served as a director of public and private companies, including organizations operating in financial technology, real estate, investment management, professional services, and manufacturing. His board experience includes service on audit and risk committees, as well as oversight of regulated entities, providing him with a solid understanding of fiduciary obligations, internal controls, and compliance frameworks.
Mr. Fotheringham is an Independent Director of RIFO Holding Group Inc. (Cayman). He represents RIFO Future Foundation, a related non-profit foundation. He is the President of EBRF (Canada) Growth Fund GP Inc.
Prior to founding Fotheringham & Fang Group in 2013, Mr. Fotheringham served as Senior Vice President, Trading at TMX Group Limited, Canada’s national exchange group and operator of the Toronto Stock Exchange, TSX Venture Exchange, Montréal Exchange (MX), and related clearing and market infrastructure entities. His responsibilities included oversight of trading operations, market quality, product development, and business development for the Toronto Stock Exchange and TSX Venture Exchange, as well as Canadian and U.S. sales and international initiatives in European and Asian markets. Earlier at TMX Group, he served as Vice President, Structured and Derivative Products, where he led the development and execution of the organization’s derivatives market strategy.
Before joining TMX Group, Mr. Fotheringham spent nearly a decade at the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS), one of Canada’s largest pension funds, where he served as Vice President, Derivative and Quantitative Investments. He managed global derivative and quantitative portfolios with notional exposures exceeding $6 billion and quantitative cash assets exceeding $3 billion. He served as a senior member of OMERS’ Investment Management Committee and Global Tactical Asset Allocation Committee, contributing to asset allocation, portfolio construction, and enterprise-level risk management.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Fotheringham served as Director and Senior Portfolio Manager for the Regional Municipality of Hamilton-Wentworth, where he managed public pension and trust portfolios and participated in the Municipality’s Investment Strategy Committee, with responsibility for global public and private investments.
Mr. Fotheringham’s governance experience includes service on various industry boards, such as the Board of Directors of The Canadian Depository for Securities (CDS) and its Audit/Risk Committee, as well as the Board of Governors of the Certified General Accountants of Ontario. He has also served on the boards of international business, academic, and cultural organizations, including the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, where he was elected First Vice President, and the Business Advisory Board of the University of Toronto’s Li Koon Chun Finance Learning Centre.
