Inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s “The Great Gatsby”, the 10th Annual Fight for Independence carried its guests back in time to the Roaring Twenties – the Jazz Age – the greatest, rowdiest spree in history under the influence of Prohibition. The brainchild of Bay Street traders, James Beattie, Jackie Walker and Tom Gajer, Fight for Independence has always been about more than boxing bankers. Nazareth House (www.nazarethhouse.ca) is a transitional, supportive and stable home, where single mothers and their infants, women fleeing abusive relationships and homelessness or struggling with addictions and mental health issues are cared for safely until they are able to heal and turn their lives around.
